This article aims to discuss family education as a process of primary learning of the human being, justifying its importance for the development of personality and cognitive growth of children and adolescents, especially as an instrument for education for sustainability. Family education is a viable resource for the dissemination of education for sustainability among children and adolescents. The implementation of the global sustainability culture and preservation of the environment requires the application of public policies, projects and actions by the State and society, aimed at learning these themes in the family environment.
